Managers I Have Known and Loved

By Lora Kingsley

1. The manager who asked me to "go help that colored guy" and said he could never work for a woman because they're "too emotional."

2. The manager who compulsively grabbed at his crotch during staff meetings. Later, after what must have been some serious behavior modification therapy, he managed to only grab at his belt. Still, it was hard not to look.

3. The wife-of-the-President-who-has-no-official-authority-but-assumes-it-anyway who told me: "You're so pretty, but I wish you would dress neater."

4. The manager who was so obsessed with Lord of the Rings that she forced me to start my business email address with "arwen@...com" (as in Evenstar).

5. The manager who disappeared suddenly from work with no explanation, until we found out that she'd had a baby, despite not having shown any signs of pregnancy and having smoked throughout it. The plot thickened when we found out that the father was her subordinate with whom she'd been having an affair!

6. The manager who asked me if I was blond "down there." (I'm a brunette - all over, so I don't understand it either.)

7. The manager who told me that "this company is not responsible for the actions of managers." (I ended up proving her wrong!)

8. The manager who was a compulsive eater and would schedule daily multiple lunch meetings with clients that I had to go to and eat a full meal every time! (Because who goes to a lunch meeting and doesn't eat?)

9. The manager who told me, after I'd been on my feet all day, that his butt hurt from sitting all day.

10. And, last but not least, the manager who fired me from my last job, from which I'm still unemployed, who told me they were letting me go because I "lacked enthusiasm."

Lora Kingsley is a high energy team player with enthusiasm and the ability to solve problems. She also has excellent oral and written communication skills.
